Hardwood floors have never been the same since the introduction of Shaw’s new Grand Canyon wide-plank flooring. Shaw Grand Canyon features time-worn, time-textured looks that heighten the elegance and rustic charm of this gorgeous, green collection. These styles are already a work of art, as well as a technological marvel with a superior green story: Grand Canyon is the first 8″ solid plank made 100% from recycled mill by-products. The premium solid wood is painstakingly hand-scraped, a process that reveals the handsomely defined grain pattern. Stylish colors and fresh texture emphasizes the natural wood grain and makes a bold statement of style or this collection. The texture technique involves side-to-side and horizontal scraping, which creates an effect like quarter-sawn wood – a late 19th century technique used in very fine floors. This beautiful scraped texture – only able to be done by hand – results in a brindled coloration like that found in nature.

With ease of shopping in mind, Shaw has allowed only three stains for this product. The Bright Angel, featuring highlights of a shimmering golden brown over a nice medium-brown; Plateau Point, which is the lightest of the three colors, seems to be the most popular by far. A true reflection of the natural wonder, the Shaw Grand Canyon Plateau Pointe gives a nod to that mystic evening glow of the sun setting across the horizon as the Grand Canyon begins to cast its massive and eerie shadows on the landscape. Finally, Thunder River: an epic tone if ever there has been one. This semi-dark, mostly brown stain brings out and highlights the natural graining of the hickory on which it is applied. Aptly named, Shaw Grand Canyon Thunder River Hickory elicits memories of Lewis & Clark’s venture into the wild and across uncharted territory. A very forgiving species, hickory hardwood flooring can withstand everyday wear and tear from just about any source. To add to its wear-resistance, the Grand Canyon Collection has been carefully hand-scraped to not only provide a unique characteristics, but also to help camouflage any abrasion or scratches.
