Cherry ranges from light brown to reddish brown and gradually darkens over time with exposure to light. By contrast, the sapwood is a creamy white. A newly manufactured floor will be considerably lighter at first than the sample display panel viewed in a showroom. Cherry will immediately begin to darken within a few weeks. Over a six to eight month period you will notice a significant color change and within 2-3 years your cherry flooring should reach its darkest color; however, it may continue to darken slightly with age.
